Elmer Ray Raines, 83, of Fort Gay, WV went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 9, 2021. Ray was born September 9, 1938 in Fort Gay, WV to the late Charles Grant and Alice (Collins) Raines. Ray was a Christian and enjoyed attending all the local churches. He was a member of Oak Grove and Bartram Chapel. Ray was a retired member of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Council of Carpenters. He loved to fish and hunt, but his favorite way to spend time was watching his grandchildren.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; one sister; and the mother of his children Lillie Mae "June" Raines. Surviving are his children Danny (Robyn) Raines, Sandy Smith, Mike (Monica) Raines, and Tammy (Chris) Wells; grandchildren Nick (Amber), Jason, Shawn (Mary), Miranda, Michael, Shannon, Jon, and Hunter; great grandchildren Brendan, Lexi, Molly, and Bryson; and siblings Ethel, Junior, Blondie, and Diane.
The family would like to thank Linda, Dreama and Sherrie for all the love and care shown to Ray.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, December 13, 2021 at 7:30 PM with Brother Mack Ray Cyrus officiating. Friends may visit the family on Monday, December 13, 2021 from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the Young Funeral Home Chapel. The family requests anyone attending to wear a facial covering.
The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Dementia Society of America.
