John Copley Obituary

John Thomas Copley, 80, of Louisa, Kentucky passed away peacefully September 27, 2023. John was born September 23, 1943, in Williamson, WV to the late John H. and Laura (Williams) Copley and was a life-long West Virginian.

Mr. Copley proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He Enlisted August 1963 serving 3 Tours, 28 months in the Vietnam’s war zone as a Transportation Specialist; 80th Trans, 121st Aviation, 13th Avn; Delta Combat Assault Battalion. Awarded the Soldier’s Medal, Army Commendation Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

Mr. Copley is survived by 4 children: Krissy (Chris) Rock, John Thomas (Serena) Copley II; James R. (Heather) Copley, and Laura (Jake Morton, and 6 grandchildren. Siblings: Cella Joann (Joby), Alice Adams, Anna Kokoski, Una (Hugh) Goldie, Timothy (Jennie) Copley, nieces, nephews and special friends: Jack and Brenda Noe, Sue Thompson and family, Linda and Bill Sloan. Mr. Copley was preceded in death by siblings: Sue Hall, Mary Baker, and Bernie George.

John was a driven person.  Early on he was determined to get an education and was the first in his family to graduate from college and earn an MBA degree.  He was also an avid outdoorsman who hunted, fished, gardened and hiked over many of the hills in Wayne Co.

His career path was as varied as his many interests: Wayne County Educator, National Cash Register Salesman, long time entrepreneur, and Long-Haul Truck Driver.

He was also a very curious person.  He explored through his reading cosmetology, nutrition, history, philosophy, geography and many more. A quick look at his large library would prove this point.

We’ll miss his quick wit and friendly banter whether debating a point or just commenting everyday activities.  He was farmer John to some people.  A good neighbor to others or just a happy, friendly customer to some.  But he was a memorable to everyone who met him and will be missed by everyone.
