John Jackson "Doc" Johnson, 76, of Ashland, KY went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 8, 2020 at the V.A. Medical Center in Huntington, WV after an extended illness.
John was born on February 18, 1944 in Ashland, KY to the late Edgar and Mamie (Wright) Johnson. He was a graduate of Paul Blazer High School and a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. John retired as a pipefitter from Armco and the VA Medical Center. John proudly served in the United States Marine Corp. He loved playing golf with "The Tour".
John was preceded in death by parents Edgar and Mamie Johnson and his aunt Thelma Naomi Johnson.
John is survived by his children Melinda Johnson, Tammie Johnson, John (Meshelle) Johnson Jr., and Anthony (Garetta) Johnson; his sister Edwina Taylor; his nephew John "Huey" Johnson; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and family and friends who loved him.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude and thanks to the VA Medical Center for the care of John and to everyone for the outpouring of love, prayers and support that have been shown during their time of bereavement.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, November 13, 2020 at 12:00 PM at the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Stanley McDonald officiating and Reverend Douglas Carter giving the Eulogy. Burial with full military honors will follow in Golden Oaks Cemetery in Catlettsburg. Friends may visit the family on Friday, November 13, 2020 from 10:00 AM until time of service at the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.
