Ollie Wendell Courtney

Wendell Courtney, 81, of Louisa, KY went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 25, 2023 surrounded by his family. Wendell was born January 19, 1942 in Zelda, KY to the late Ollie and Nellie (Burke) Courtney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Charles Courtney and brother in law Jimmy Daniel. 

Wendell was a loving husband, father, brother and son. He was a member of Buchanan Chapel Church. Wendell graduated from Morehead State University with his Bachelors Degree in Industrial Arts. He and Lynn were the owners of the Sears Catalog store in Louisa for 11 years. Wendell taught Industrial Arts at several area high schools, worked for Armco, and retired as maintenance worker from Three Rivers Medical Center. 

Wendell is survived by his wife of 52 years Lynn Auxier Courtney; daughter and son in law Amy and Jim Sparks; siblings Phyllis Daniel, Sharon (Ted) Storie, Barbara (Jerry) Wellman, Dean (Yvonne) Courtney, and Dan (Anne) Courtney; sister in law Augusta Courtney; a host of nieces and nephews; and special friend Luther Wellman, Jr.

The family would like to thank Elizabeth Saul-Collins, PA, Dr. Marc Workman, Greg Kiser and the staff of Three Rivers Medical Center for the love and care they showed to Wendell. 

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 28, 2023 from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM at the Young Funeral Home Chapel. The procession for the graveside service at Buchanan Chapel Cemetery will leave Young Funeral Home at 2:00 PM. 

Young Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of Mr. Courtney and his family.
